The College of Fine Arts|University of Babylon was established in 1980/1981 under the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Mustansiriya. In the academic year 1986/1987, its name was changed to the College of Fine Arts, and in the academic year 1988/1989.

Dr. Raad Matar Al-Taie, the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Legal Affairs at the Faculty of Fine Arts, has authored a book titled "History of Art through Ages." Published by "Madinat Al-Kutub," the book is structured into three chapters .The first chapter discusses ideologies and their conceptual representations in social life. The second chapter explores artistic movements in modern and postmodern art. The third chapter focuses on contemporary Iraqi art within the frameworks of modernity and postmodernity. The book reviews art history, modern art history, contemporary art history in Iraq, and postmodern art history, presenting the historical evolution and different techniques employed in artistic works, while also studying the relationship between the Arab world and Europe.
